Log regarding the 'no speech input detected' is below. Have, up to this point tried all of the recommended fixes (default 'recording' device,no AGC,allow app access etc) install/reinstall speech recognition files as suggested, re-trained speech recognition. Not sure what the particular issue may be?

1: don't use nAudio for speech input. It works well for playback but it's better to switch it off for voice recognition
2: start your Rift (or steamVR) before starting CC and allow it to start fully before launching CC
3: ensure the Rift microphone is set to be the default sound recording device in Windows sounds control panel (and only the Rift mic has this green tick)
4: finally, once SteamVR is running (or Oculus Home) *and* you've checked that the Rift mic is the one and only default sound recording device, start CC

mr_belowski: Thank you for getting back so quickly, much appreciated. I've included the above screenshot, because I believe an 'Input Box' (Rift Audio) is missing. I uninstalled/reinstalled CC and Box was still missing.

Re: your response to my 1st post, I followed your steps:

1. Checked to ensure Rift Audio was default 'recording' device
2. Clicked 'on' Speech Recognition
3. Opened Oculus home page
4. Opened iRacing in VR to the point where I am 'in the car in pit lane, ready to go on track'
5. Opened CC, Clicked 'start application'
6. Chief and Spotter communicate clearly
7. I press button on G29 wheel and say 'Chief, can you hear me'
8. Chief responds 'Sorry mate, I did not catch that'
9. I press button on G29 wheel again and say 'Chief, how's my fuel'
10. Chief responds 'Can't hear you'

There's another checkbox in the windows sounds control panel, 'allow applications exclusive access to this device' or something like that - ensure that's disabled. Also verify that cc is allowed to use the microphone in the windows security / device access settings

mr_belowski: Thanks again for getting back. I unchecked 'allow applications exclusive access to this device' and verified CC allowed to use microphone in Control Panel -> Privacy.

Went through sequencing you suggested:
1. Checked to ensure Rift Audio was default 'recording' device
2. Clicked 'on' Speech Recognition
3. Opened Oculus home page
4. Opened iRacing in VR to the point where I am 'in the car in pit lane, ready to go on track'
5. Opened CC, Clicked 'start application'
6. Chief and Spotter communicate clearly
7. I press button on G29 wheel and say 'Chief, can you hear me'
8. Chief responds 'Sorry mate, I did not catch that'
9. I press button on G29 wheel again and say 'Chief, how's my fuel'
10. Chief responds 'Can't hear you

So, I uninstalled and reinstalled CC. Made sure nAudio speech recognition was off and en-US was entered in Country locale.

Did not open Oculus or iRacing this time, just opened CC and clicked 'Start Application'

Chief and Spotter communicated intro information
I then pressed button G29 wheel and said Chief, can you hear me' a couple of times. Chief responded to my inquiries 'repeat please'; 'can't hear you mate'; 'didn't understand that'

Additionally, I shut down CC and followed the earlier sequence of first clicking on Speech recognition; opened Oculus home, then iRacing (to the point where I was in pit lane ready to go on track) and then opened CC and clicked 'start application'. Had the same result regarding Chief responding 'can't hear you mate'; 'please repeat' etc

I'm running out of ideas here...

Does the Rift mic register input in the windows sounds control panel test? Did you check the security stuff to ensure that applications (specifically CC) are allowed to use the Rift mic? Do you have another mic to test with?

mr_belowski: again, thank you for getting back.

The Rift mic registers very well in the windows sound control panel. CC in Control Panel -> Privacy -> Microphone, is listed as one of the 'desktop apps' allowed to access the microphone and in Control Panel -> Privacy -> Voice Activation -> 'change microphone access', CC is one of the 'desktop apps' allowed access to the microphone.

I had purchased another mic a couple weeks ago and set it up as the default 'recording' device, but got the same results.

I've been trying off and on for about the last 3 weeks to get the sound recognition working, using the CC's 'help' and Forum posts. After not having any luck there, I decided to 'post' to the Forum my Logs, hoping someone may respond. Certainly appreciated and pleasantly surprised that you have responded.

I just tried using 'Audacity' for the first time, the signal from the Rift mic is barely registering. I will try the other microphone again and see if I can get a stronger reading in Audacity.

Additional microphone setup as default 'recording' and registers much better in Audacity; however, Chief still responds, 'sorry mate can't hear you'; 'repeat please'. I too, am running out of ideas.

One thing I have noticed each time I load up Crew Chief, the 'Help and getting started' box and the other box below 'Properties' box are missing. Could this be a bad 'reinstall' on my part.

don't worry about the missing UI elements - stuff got moved around

If you make a significant change to your microphone (or use a different one) you'll need to re-train windows speech recognition. It might be easier (and quicker) to try the separate Microsoft speech recognition which doesn't require training - disable the "prefer Windows speech recognition" property in the app and download and install the runtime and language packs - install this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27225 first, then this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27224

I finally resolved the issue of No sound input detected.

First, I was not sure whether CC was using Windows 10 Speech Recognizer or the Microsoft Speech Recognizer that I had downloaded at the same time as I downloaded Crew Chief (CC). In order to resolve this issue, I first made sure that the Windows 10 Speech Recognizer was running (Start -> Window Ease of Access -> Windows Speech Recognition.

I then opened Microsoft Word and dictated a document using the mic in my Oculus VR headset. Mic worked perfectly and there were no errors in words dictated. I was now aware that the mic in my Oculus VR headset was working properly, using the Windows 10 Speech Recognizer. I must add, that in trying to resolve this issue in the last couple of weeks, I had ‘trained’ the Windows Speech Recognition software a couple of times, thinking that this was the issue with Crew Chief responding, ‘ can’t hear you mate’ ‘repeat please’ etc.

Now that I knew that the mic in the Oculus headset and Windows 10 Speech Recognition were working, I went into CC’s ‘Properties’ box and Clicked “on” ‘prefer Windows Speech Recognition’. Also, while in the ‘Properties’ box, I clicked “on” ‘use nAudio for speech recognition’. By clicking ‘on’, ‘use nAudio for speech recognition’ a new ‘Speech Input Device’ window appeared on the main screen of CC and this new box identified my Rift Audio as the ‘input’ device.

In Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback -> ensured that my Rift Audio headphones were the default device for playback (green checkmarked) and ensured that for these headphones, under Control Panel -> Playback -> Properties -> Advanced, that the Exclusive Mode ‘Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device was ‘Unchecked’.

I also made sure that for ‘default’ recording ie. Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording, that my Rift Audio mic was set as the default device (green checkmarked). And, I also ensured that the under Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording -> Properties -> Advanced, that the Exclusive Mode ‘Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device was ‘Unchecked’. I also went into Windows 10, Settings -> Home -> Sound, in order to ensure that my Microphone (Rift Audio) was the ‘Input’ device.

With the above action taken, I then clicked CC’s, ‘Start application’ and after the Chief and Spotter had concluded their intro’s, I pressed (and continued to press the button as I talked) and asked several different questions of the Chief; the Chief responded to each of my questions. My issue had been resolved!

mr¬_belowski – thank you for having taken the time to get back to me on several occasions regarding this issue.
