We are investigating on the problem and will put out a fix asap, but in the meantime you might be able to fix this yourself.
This setting is profile dependent so if you made any new setting profiles you will have to edit the active profile else the default file is called "defaultSettings.json".

Make sure the app is closed.
Open C:\Users\{USERNAME}\Documents\CrewChiefV4\profiles \defaultSettings.json(or your current active profile). In a text editor.
locate "prefer_system_sre": true,
change to "prefer_system_sre": false,
Then start the app.

Please report back if this works.

We just pushed an update that hopefully addresses the issues, the update is a bit rushed and untested but we had to sort of guess what the issue is.

This is quite a puzzle.

Have you modified your speech recognition config file at all? What's the default language of your Windows installation? Does it work if you change the value of the "Prefer Windows speech recogniser" property to false (unticked)?

benprojekt
02-09-2019, 09:20
No I have changed nothing. I install the crew chief update and then comes the error message...No changes when I change the value of the Windows speech recoogniser.
I try to re-install crew Chief now....

mr_belowski
02-09-2019, 09:37
is your Windows install using English or something else as its default language?

This may be related to a slight change in the behaviour of the speech recognition engine where the old SRE used the installed language pack as its default language, but the built-in SRE uses the windows UI language setting as its default language. We're explicitly setting our grammar objects to en-GB, but relying on the recogniser matching this by default, which might not be the case any more.

If you change that property value I suggested in my previous post it might fix it until I get another hotfix build out (but, like before, I'm having to guess at the problem as I can't reproduce it)

benprojekt
02-09-2019, 09:41
My default Windows language is German

benprojekt
02-09-2019, 11:02
I'm the only one who has this problem after your update?

mr_belowski
02-09-2019, 11:12
Probably not - it looks there's a bug in the way we handle the system speech recognition engine. As this is now the default option, users with non-English installs of Windows are likely to encounter similar problems. A fix will be available later today, but in the mean time it would help us a lot if you could make the change i suggested a few posts back in this thread and report whether it fixes your issue

benprojekt
02-09-2019, 11:14
OK, then I'll wait for the update.

Have tried all proposals to the reinstallation of Crew Chief. Nothing helped

mr_belowski
02-09-2019, 11:17
did you switch off the "Prefer Windows speech recogniser" option and re-test?

Humvee28
02-09-2019, 11:23
I got a problem after the update too. The voice recognition doesn´t work in CC anymore. Before the update i had zero problems.

No problems with the hardware because it works in windows without problems.

I´m a german windows user also.

mr_belowski
02-09-2019, 11:27
OK, good to know it's consistent across users. I think i know the cause and how to fix it, i'll get it sorted when i'm back from work. In the mean time can someone with this issue please try unchecking the "Prefer Windows speech recogniser" property and restarting the app. This should change it back to the old speech recogniser behaviour

thanks for trying that. I've been back through the old code and can definitely confirm that this is a bug in the 4.9.9.1 & 4.9.9.2 releases and my intended fix will definitely work - expect it to be sorted later today. Sorry for the inconvenience guys, this update hasn't gone smoothly :(

the beta version has now been promoted to the 'live' version so there's no need to download the beta any more. Users already on the beta don't need to do anything - the live and beta builds are exactly the same

It would have been nice if you had supplied some more info it the form of a log or something in that regards, kind of hard to fix with no additional information given.

Not quite the same error. This suggests you need to install the ms speech recognition system. Did it ever work?

it was working perfectly fine until that one update now everytime i wanna go and select voice recognition , it says i need to install it . I've uninstalled and installed it several times already . tried uninstalling crew chief and speech all together then reinstalled it. Nothing works.

[edit]

I'd also like to have some details about your Windows install's language, the Microsoft speech recognition installs (which language pack you installed, whether you've reinstall any of that stuff since the app update), and what changes (if any) you've made to the Crew Chief configuration.

I might end up having to provide a release with a load of debug code in to try and track this down but I'm trying to avoid doing this

this is the error with the log

mr_belowski
07-09-2019, 09:52
this error means the app can't find the speech recognition runtime component. It's attempting to initialise a System SRE (which should be available to all Windows 10 installs) and then attempting and failing to initialise a Microsoft SRE (twice). Uninstall the 2 SRE libraries - SpeechPlatformRuntime and MSSpeech_SR_en-GB_TELE (or MSSpeech_SR_en-US_TELE / whatever) and reinstall them both. Ensure they're the correct version for your Windows install (64 / 32 bit)

my request for help from two or three days ago is still held in moderation. any chance of seeing it released?

mr_belowski
07-09-2019, 19:50
@jrebs - was that the one I replied to, suggesting you try again with nAudio disabled?

@coil666 - I'm at a loss here. There are 2 things you could try. First is to add English as a language to your Windows install (assuming it's not an English version already) - Settings -> Time & Language -> Language -> Add A Language, and choose English (UK or US).

You can also try rolling Crew Chief back to an older version - http://crewchief.isnais.de/CrewChiefV4.9.8.24.msi

I am unable to see the thread since it is still pending moderation, so I don't know if that's the one or not (no notification, no ability to view it). That being said, I tried without nAudio prior to enabling it as I was going through all the possible tests. I also tried both release and beta versions.

@coil666 to add to what Jim suggested see this post: https://forum.sector3studios.com/index.php?threads/offical-release-of-crew-chief-version-4-auto-updating-and-shiny.2516/page-104#post-185583
If you could collect screenshots of your config like in the above post, and upload to something like tinypic, we might be able to spot something.

Please let us know if reverting to the old version works.

sorry for late response ... English is the main language for my windows. I tried reverting , didnt work.
